Long Flat Bottom

Our place – We work from home in the remote Far North of New Zealand, where we have built the Long Flat Bottom Workshop & Gallery.

With our sub-tropical climate we are experimenting with an extensive range of organic produce, varying from garlic to pecan nuts and all the greens in between. We’ve had our bit of land for about 20 years, developing it from a section of rough pasture to the sustainable lifestyle block that it is today. Two well-trained hounds help ensure our security.

The gallery – The workshop, where the creative production of knives and carvings occur, has an attached gallery where we display works from a variety of innovative artists. Local art, wood craft, greenstone jewellery and weaving adorn the available space.Takahue – Nestled in a valley between the imposing Raetea and Herekino ranges, not far from the hub that is Kaitaia, Takahue is a spread out community of interesting characters and trades.

Our work –  We are constantly kept busy with a myriad of projects – on and off the land. To help with all this work we often host WWOOFers (Willing Workers on Organic Farms). Not just helping with labour, the international mix keeps Long Flat Bottom an interesting place to be.
